Claude down: Anthropic AI not working in major outage
Claude, the AI chatbot made by Anthropic, has gone offline in a major outage.
The system refused to respond to questions from users as a result of the technical issue.
The chatbot page itself appeared to load as normal. But any attempt to use it brought only error messages, such as “a bit longer, thanks for your patience”.
Anthropic said it was aware of the errors which were present across its models and that it was working to fix them.
Later, the company said that the problem had been found, a fix had been released and that the system should be back online.
Anthropic’s Claude is one of a number of chatbots launched in the wake of the popularity of ChatGPT, in late 2022. The company was originally founded in 2021, by former employees of ChatGPT maker OpenAI, who left the company to focus on increased AI safety.
The outage came just hours after Anthropic unveiled its plans to go public in the US, in a deal that could value the company at as much as $1 trillion.
