Chan-hom's possible impact on traffic in Japan
Tropical Storm Chan-hom may affect transportation systems as it approaches the Kanto region that includes Tokyo.
East Japan Railway Company said the Tohoku Shinkansen bullet train service has been in operation as usual since the first train on Tuesday. The operator said there might be delays or suspensions due to the storm.
As of 11 a.m. on Tuesday, there had been no suspensions or delays due to the storm in railway services in the greater Tokyo area, offered by both East Japan Railway and other private operators.
Meanwhile, a total of 62 flights, mainly those to or from Haneda and Narita airports, had been canceled as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday. All Nippon Airways canceled 58 flights and Japan Airlines 4.
The airline companies urge customers to check the updates on their websites and others, as more cancellations or delays may come depending on the storm's direction and other weather conditions.
