CAQ minister François Bonnardel to retire from politics
The longtime politician had won 6 general elections
Another member of the Coalition Avenir Québec cabinet, François Bonnardel, has decided not to run in this year's provincial election.
The news was first reported by TVA and confirmed by Radio-Canada.
The MNA for Granby is currently serving as the minister of immigration, francization and integration. He will remain at the National Assembly until the end of his mandate.
He was first elected to the National Assembly in 2007 and has won six general elections since then.
Bonnardel joins a growing list of CAQ MNAs who are leaving provincial politics, including most notably former premier François Legault, who resigned from the role in January.
Most recently, Labour Minister Jean Boulet and Culture Minister Mathieu Lacombe announced they would not run for re-election in the fall.
The next election is scheduled for Oct. 5, 2026.
