Buffalo World Naked Bike Ride canceled due to violent threats

The Buffalo World Naked Bike Ride, which was set to take place Aug. 1, has been canceled.

Organizers said there have been threats of violence toward organizers and riders of the annual protest.

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of the 11th year of the Buffalo World Naked Bike Ride," organizers said in a Facebook post. "With the outpouring of overwhelming disapproval from concerned community members, and the threats of violence and death towards organizers and riders, it is unrealistic to ensure the safety of our wonderful supporters."

The goal of the ride is to call out car culture and oil dependency.

With the ride now canceled, organizers will be taking donations that will go toward marginalized members of the community.
