Artificial Intelligence, Bias & Equity in Legal Practice

Artificial intelligence is a tool that informs the professional activity of New York attorneys. AI is embedded in legal research platforms, case management tools, and e-discovery systems. Yet the adoption of these tools has outpaced practitioners' understanding of their limitations and risks, particularly with respect to bias, equity, and professional responsibility.

This CLE program, the first of a series, equips New York attorneys with a practical, rigorous foundation for navigating AI in legal practice. Drawing on the findings of the New York Judiciary's Bias and Equity Subcommittee of the Advisory Committee on AI & the Courts, and leading scholarship on AI bias in the legal industry, the curriculum addresses both the systemic challenges AI poses to equal justice and the specific professional responsibility obligations attorneys must satisfy when deploying these tools.
