Apple cuts more than 200 jobs as it scales back work on its $3,499 Vision Pro headset

Apple is cutting more than 200 positions across its Siri, Vision Pro and software teams while reorganizing around artificial intelligence and smart glasses.

Apple is scaling back work on its Vision Pro headset as it shifts resources toward artificial intelligence and smart glasses.

The Cupertino tech giant is largely shutting down a team focused on Vision Pro gaming and reducing the size of the group that produces immersive video, according to Bloomberg. The restructuring affects more than 200 positions across Apple’s Vision Pro, Siri and software teams.

Apple confirmed that the changes would affect some existing roles.

“While we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles,” an Apple spokesperson said in a statement. “We are grateful to these team members for their contributions, and we are committed to supporting them throughout their transition, including opportunities to apply for other roles at Apple.”

About 100 of the positions are tied to the Vision Pro group, while roughly 100 others affect Siri and related software teams, Bloomberg reported.

Apple introduced the Vision Pro in 2024 as a new computing platform. The headset starts at $3,499 and uses cameras and sensors to place apps and digital content in a user’s surroundings.

The company has told employees that Vision Pro and its visionOS operating system will continue, Bloomberg reported. But Apple is placing greater emphasis on artificial intelligence and smart glasses while reducing its investment in immersive gaming and video produced in-house.

Apple plans to create fewer immersive videos itself and encourage outside companies to develop content for the headset, according to Bloomberg.
