AI system launched to curb child labour
The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has activated an artificial intelligence-based child protection system across the province to help identify children involved in labour and those found outside school during school hours.
According to a PSCA spokesperson, the AI-powered system will monitor Safe City cameras around the clock to detect activities potentially involving child labour.
It will also identify children without school uniforms during designated school hours.
The system is further designed to detect children wearing school uniforms who are found outside school premises during school hours and automatically generate alerts for the relevant authorities.
For identifying children who may be out of school, the AI-based system will remain operational daily from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
Alerts generated through Safe City cameras will be forwarded to the relevant authorities for verification and necessary action.
The spokesperson said the technology would help protect children from being pushed into labour and support efforts to ensure regular school attendance.
The PSCA is continuing to deploy modern technology to strengthen child protection measures and contribute to creating a safer environment for children across Punjab, the spokesperson added.
