Adidas To Cut 300-350 Jobs At Gurugram Technology Hub
Software engineers, data scientists, and data engineers are among the roles affected at Adidas’s 700-member India Technology Hub
Adidas has begun cutting jobs at its India Technology Hub in Gurugram, with around 300 to 350 employees expected to be affected, according to media reports citing sources. The reduction would cover nearly half of the hub’s approximately 700 employees and comes as the German sportswear company restructures parts of its technology organisation in India.
The affected roles include software engineers, data scientists and data engineers. Adidas announced the workforce reduction during a town hall on 15 September, with some employees receiving exit letters the same day.
Adidas confirmed that it is reducing roles within its technology organisation in India but did not disclose the number of employees affected. The company said the move is intended to simplify parts of its organisation, strengthen critical capabilities and align its operating model with the changing needs of the business.
The company described the decision as difficult and said it would provide transition assistance to affected employees. Adidas also said India remains strategically important and that its Technology Hub continues to support its growth, innovation and digital transformation plans.
Adidas launched its India Technology Hub in 2021 to attract and develop technology and engineering talent for its products. The centre has since formed part of the company’s technology and digital operations in India.
The current restructuring therefore comes roughly five years after the hub was established. The reported cuts are concentrated in technology roles, including software engineering and data-related functions.
People familiar with the matter said employees affected by the layoffs have been divided into two groups. One group received exit letters on 15 September, while another group is expected to remain with the company until 15 December to complete handovers.
