5 Malaysians arrested for possible cocaine smuggling
Five Malaysian nationals were arrested on suspicion of trying to smuggle cocaine in the soles of their shoes Friday and Saturday at Tokyo's Haneda Airport.
Police said Mohd Danial Far Han Bin Abdul Rahman, one of the suspects, and three others admitted to the allegations. One has denied the accusation.
Police in Tokyo said the individuals tried to enter Japan from Malaysia with five kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of about 757,300 dollars.
Customs officials at the airport found that the five each concealed bags of cocaine under the insoles of their shoes during the inspection on their arrival.
Mohd Danial Far Han Bin Abdul Rahman reportedly said a person he met through an app told him to carry illegal drugs abroad, adding that he was offered compensation and handed a pair of shoes. Police and other authorities believe that all five may have been instructed to carry the drug into Japan. They are investigating and suspect that an international smuggling ring is involved.
