Dog lost on mountain found three weeks later

A dog that went missing during a Lake District walk on Helvellyn three weeks ago has been found.

The pet, called Teddy, disappeared on 2 August, promoting a search by volunteers from Keswick Mountain Rescue Team and others.

It was found stuck at Dry Gill on Friday after one of the search party heard barking.

Due to the dangerous location, a mountain rescue team was called to help bring the dog to safety, before it was returned to the "relieved" owner about three hours later and taken to a vet.

"The team are absolutely delighted to share this update, as the news of this missing dog had deeply affected so many people across our local community," a spokesperson said.

The dog, who had no obvious injuries, had lost a "considerable" amount of weight due to being out in the wilderness for so long.

"He was given a small amount of food before being safely secured in a rucksack for the journey back down to Swirls car park," the spokesperson added.

"A remarkable outcome after nearly three weeks on Helvellyn, and a huge well done to everyone who kept searching and never gave up on Teddy."
