2 people dead, 1 seriously injured in Sudbury collision

Highway MR-80 was closed for several hours while police investigated

Two people in their early twenties are dead and one person was seriously injured after a two-car collision on the MR-80 Saturday morning in the Hanmer area of Greater Sudbury, Ont.

A blue sedan travelling east hit a black SUV that was turning left out of the Hanmer Valley Shopping Centre just before 10 a.m., the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSP) said in a release.

The 21-year-old driver of the blue car was declared dead at the scene. The 20-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was subsequently pronounced dead.

A 43-year-old female driver of the SUV was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The GSPS asked anyone who witnessed the accident or who may have dash cam footage to contact them.
