ZP, TP quota announcement revives rural politics in Chamarajanagar

Mysuru: Political activity has intensified across rural Chamarajanagar following the announcement of reservations for zilla panchayat (ZP) and taluk panchayat (TP) seats. The number of ZP seats has increased from 23 to 28 following delimitation, according to the final draft notification announced by the state govt. Honganur, Mahadeshwara Hills, Bannithalapura, Kongaralli and Kesthur are the district’s new ZP constituencies. The announcement has revived rural politics after a five-year gap. The last ZP and TP elections were held in 2016. Elected representatives took office on May 4, 2016, and remained in power till May 4, 2021. The bodies have since remained without elected representatives due to delays in announcing reservations and legal hurdles to conducting elections.Aspirants are approaching party leaders for tickets, while MLAs and former MLAs from Congress, JDS and BJP are preparing to field their sons, daughters, supporters and other family members. Several former members and aspirants are disappointed after the reservation system in their constituencies changed this year.Of 28 ZP seats, 50% are reserved for women. The general category has 14 seats, including six for women; SC seven, including four for women; ST three, including two for women; Backward Class A three, including two for women; and Backward Class B one.Additional deputy commissioner T Javaregowda said the state govt just announced a draft final notification of reservation. The district administration is ready to conduct elections once the State Election Commission gives its consent, he said. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Mysuru | Silver Rate in Mysuru | Bank Holidays in Mysuru | Public Holidays in MysuruStay updated with the latest Mysuru news.
