Windsor skies dotted with lightning amid Environment Canada storm watch

A yellow thunderstorm watch is in effect

Environment Canada is watching for severe thunderstorms, hail and “torrential downpours” for Windsor and Essex County.

The forecaster says severe weather is expected into this evening and possibly into Thursday morning. That could include winds gusting as high as 90 km/h and hail the size of a toonie.

“Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail,” Environment Canada said in its yellow alert.

Tornado watch lifted for London and Middlesex County, power outages remain across the region

The forecaster also says to take cover if thunder and lightning hit.

Late Thursday evening there was significant lightning in the sky over Windsor.

The alert comes as severe weather hit the Toronto area and parts of southwestern Ontario Thursday, bringing widespread power outages to some areas.
