Wildfire erupts beside highway near Vernon
A fast-moving wildfire sent towering flames and thick smoke into the sky near Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. Footage filmed at 8:44pm on August 1 along Highway 97A just outside Vernon shows the blaze burning intensely beside the roadway as smoke engulfs the surrounding hillsides. The filmer said they had travelled to nearby Armstrong earlier that afternoon when there was no sign of a fire, but encountered the rapidly spreading blaze while driving back to Vernon later that evening. The video captures the speed at which the wildfire developed as firefighters battled the advancing flames.
