Wagmatcook men charged with 2nd-degree murder after stabbing
39-year-old victim was known to the accused, say police
Two men from the Wagmatcook First Nation in Cape Breton have been charged with second-degree murder in relation to a stabbing Wednesday in Sydney.
Pavel Benjamin Peck, 29, and Vernon Gregory Peck, 32, appeared Thursday in provincial court in Sydney.
Cape Breton Regional Police said in a news release that both men knew the victim, Terrance Campbell.
The 39-year-old Sydney man was found suffering from stab wounds at a residence on Frederick Street. He died later in hospital.
Police described the stabbing as an isolated incident and said there is no threat to public safety.
In addition to the murder charge, Vernon Peck faces a charge of forcible confinement, while Pavel Peck is charged with breaches of three previous court orders.
Pavel Peck was due in court last month to face several charges on another matter, including assault with a weapon and various weapons offences. He failed to show and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The men are being held in custody until their next court appearance later this month.
