A vehicle incident has shut the Trans-Canada Highway both ways just west of Revelstoke, until further notice.
DriveBC reports that Highway 1 is closed as of 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at the junction with Back Road about five kilometres from town.
An assessment is in progress, with the next update expected at 12:30 p.m. Monday.
Highway cameras show eastbound traffic backed up along Tonkawatla Creek, and westbound traffic lined up all the way from near Smokey Bear Campground Resort to back across the Columbia River into Revelstoke, past the Victoria Road intersection.
Black Press Media has confirmed that westbound vehicles waiting in line are able to return to Revelstoke at this time, or detour south via Highway 23.
