VPD says officer has been transferred to non-operational duties

The B.C. Prosecution Service says a Vancouver police officer has been charged with assault.

It said a charge of assault has been approved against Const. Jason Grewal on Thursday in connection to a Sept. 9, 2025 incident in Vancouver.

In an email to CBC News, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) said that when the matter was raised to its professional standards section, it referred the criminal investigation to the New Westminster Police Department.

It also said Grewal has been transferred to non-operational duties.

An investigation through the Police Act is suspended until the criminal process is complete.

The VPD said it was not able to comment on the specifics of the case as it is before the courts.

A court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 1.
