SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Associated Equipment Distributors (AED) president and CEO Brian McGuire has announced he has sent letters to U.S. governors from states with significant exposure to Canadian trade urging action to resolve the ongoing trade impasse between the two countries.

“Our supply chains do not stop at state lines or national borders. Heavy machinery, agricultural equipment, industrial components, and service parts routinely cross the U.S.-Canada border multiple times during production and distribution. The ongoing uncertainty created by trade disputes will disrupt significant multi-year capital investments, inflate equipment costs, and directly threaten local jobs,” wrote McGuire.

The association president recently travelled to Washington, D.C. to meet with officials at the Embassy of Canada to the United States and senior lawmakers, including members of the House Ways & Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Trade.

In the letters, McGuire echoed AED’s free and fair trade message and emphasized the importance of the United States-Mexico-Agreement for equipment dealers, manufacturers and customers.

“AED respectfully calls on you to exercise every mechanism at your disposal to return to a consistent and tariff-free trade relationship with Canada. The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) was crafted to guarantee stable, duty-free trade and protect North American competitiveness. Honuoring the framework of the USMCA is essential to maintaining low operational costs for small businesses, farmers, contractors, and builders,” McGuire added.

AED states it will continue to monitor the evolving U.S.-Canada trade situation and will remain engaged in efforts to support a resolution that protects North American supply chains.
