Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to visit Canada next week, according to sources that spoke to Radio-Canada.

The visit, which was first reported by the Globe and Mail, has been confirmed by two independent sources.

The sources say the visit to Canada could include two stops.

Zelenskyy’s last visit to Canada was in December, when he met with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Halifax before travelling to the U.S. to meet with President Donald Trump for talks aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Prime Minister's Office declined to comment on the expected visit.

News of the visit comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin said a number of countries, including the U.S. and China, were ready to support a peace settlement between Russia and Ukraine.

"Ultimately, however, the problem must be resolved by the countries involved in the conflict — Russia and Ukraine," he said.

"We are ​grateful to everyone attempting to contribute to a settlement. Is there ​a chance? In my view, yes, there is."

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha told reporters in Kyiv: "I believe that we will now have a new dynamic in the peace efforts, with the return of ​this active phase of political and diplomatic engagement in many capitals around the world."

He did not ⁠elaborate further, telling reporters to "follow the ⁠news."

After 4½ years of Europe's deadliest ‌conflict since the Second World War, it is rare for either side to offer an upbeat assessment of peace prospects.

They last met for U.S.-mediated talks in February.
