Trump to appoint Jay Clayton as AI czar: report
by CHARLOTTE HAZARD | The National News Desk
WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump will likely select Jay Clayton to be the new artificial intelligence czar, according to reports.
Two sources told CNN that Clayton is the top choice for the role and the decision could be made Friday.
This comes one month after Trump announced the creation of an AI Force as the government has been requesting that the technology slow down.
“Any personnel announcement will be announced directly by the President,” a White House official told CNN. “Any reporting until then is baseless speculation.”
Clayton led the Securities and Exchange Commission during most of Trump’s first term and is expected to stay the director of national intelligence.
When he was getting confirmed for his current position he said that AI is a game changer.
“When something’s both an opportunity and a threat, you better get your arms around it,” he said during his hearing.
Clayton was confirmed to lead the intelligence agencies in July.
