U.S. President Donald Trump has argued that the term "Artificial Intelligence (AI)" does not accurately describe the reality of the technology, proposing new terminology and even conducting an online survey himself.

On September 19 (local time), President Trump posted on his social networking service, Truth Social, stating, "Many people believe the term 'Artificial Intelligence' is inaccurate and exceedingly inelegant in describing AI."

He suggested three alternatives he believes can represent the current state of AI more precisely and elegantly.

The names proposed by President Trump are 'Superior Intelligence' (SI), 'Extreme Intelligence' (EI), and 'Supreme Intelligence' (SI). He created an online poll asking his followers to vote on which of these names best captures the so-called "revolution" of continuously evolving technology.

The core of this proposal is to replace the word "Artificial" with expressions that emphasize the advanced intellectual capabilities of AI. While the widely used term AI highlights intelligence created by humans, President Trump appears to believe that it fails to fully capture the abilities demonstrated by this technology.

This move comes amid ongoing debates in the United States about the rapid pace of AI development and related regulations. Recently, there have been calls within industry and academia to slow the pace of development or strengthen regulations, out of concern that AI could exceed human control. In contrast, President Trump has consistently maintained that restricting AI development could weaken America’s competitiveness.

On September 13, President Trump asserted that the U.S. is ahead of China in the AI field and stressed the need to maintain superiority in this competition. He has repeatedly emphasized that winning the AI race is directly linked to national competitiveness.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time President Trump has pushed for a change in existing terminology. He notably popularized the phrase "fake news" to refer to mainstream media reports and coined the term "deep state" in reference to government officials. He also referred to COVID-19 as "the China virus" and "Kung Flu."
