Train derailment south of Saskatoon under investigation
4 cars carrying canola went off track, CN Rail says
CN Rail says an investigation is underway after four rail cars went off the track on Monday morning near Kenaston, Sask., about 80 kilometres south of Saskatoon.
"Reports indicate that there were no injuries or dangerous goods involved and there is no impact to public safety," CN spokesperson Ashley Michnowski told CBC News in an emailed statement Monday afternoon.
Nearly 50 CN traincars loaded with potash derail near Lestock, Sask.
Jocelyn Ormerod was driving on Highway 11 from Saskatoon to Lumsden on Monday morning when she saw the aftermath.
"It had looked like there was like at least one cart that had been fully derailed and it looked like it had been on fire," she described.
"I was just a little bit surprised to see it happen because you hear about derailments every so often, so to actually see one myself was a little bit shocking."
As of Monday afternoon, CN said the cause of the derailment remained under investigation.
