Teen pleads guilty in N.S. youth hockey sexual assault case

A Nova Scotia youth accused of sexual assault with a weapon has pleaded guilty to the charge.

The charge stems from an incident in October 2025 and involves members of a youth hockey team in the Truro, N.S., area.

The youth originally pleaded not guilty, but a new plea to the single charge was entered Tuesday in Truro youth court.

Police had initially arrested four youth, but only two were charged.

Court documents show the boys, both 15, faced several charges, including one count of sexual assault with a weapon, which police had described as a mini hockey stick.

The charges stem from alleged attacks on three victims on Oct. 3, 2025, in Colchester County.

Both boys were 14 at the time of the alleged offences.

The identities of the accused and the alleged victims are protected from publication under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The other youth who was charged is headed to trial next February.

“All sexual violence is serious, and are taken seriously by the police and by the Public Prosecution Service," prosecutor Patrick Young said Tuesday outside the courtroom.

"We know that sexual violence often goes unreported, and we encourage anyone who might be the victim of crime to find the courage to come forward, as these young [complainants] have done. That would stand as an example to others who might be considering coming forward to police.”
