SimpleClosure Expands AssetHub as Startup Asset Returns Target $10 Million

SimpleClosure has expanded AssetHub, its marketplace for monetizing source code and operational data, and said the platform is on track to return more than $10 million to venture-backed startups by the end of 2026.

Previously focused on companies using SimpleClosure’s dissolution services, AssetHub is now available to established businesses at any stage, including companies that are operating, pivoting, winding down or discontinuing individual products. The expansion broadens SimpleClosure’s business beyond startup shutdowns into a marketplace connecting companies with buyers seeking code and proprietary operational datasets.

The company is also moving WorkspaceData, its product for monetizing operational data for AI training, from beta into general availability. WorkspaceData was initially launched in April and has since been developed around data extraction, de-identification and delivery.

AssetHub currently focuses on two asset categories. SourceCode includes Git repositories, ticketing systems, product documentation and production codebases. WorkspaceData covers communications, documents and workflows that capture how teams developed products, managed projects and made decisions.

SimpleClosure is positioning those assets for an emerging group of buyers that includes AI foundation model developers and companies building reinforcement learning environments. As AI development shifts toward increasingly specialized training and post-training requirements, the company sees commercial value in data that captures both completed work and the processes used to produce it.

AssetHub has supported more than 350 companies to date. Assets handled through the platform span approximately 500 million lines of code across about 3,000 repositories, 1.7 million commits, 200,000 pull requests and work involving 3,200 contributors.

Buyer activity has also increased. SimpleClosure said the number of AI buyers in its network has grown ninefold compared with 2025, while the proportion of its dissolution customers listing assets through AssetHub has increased tenfold since the first quarter of 2026.

The growth provides SimpleClosure with an opportunity to extend its role in the venture-backed company lifecycle. Its core business handles legal filings and compliance associated with startup shutdowns, putting the company in a position to identify intellectual property and other assets that might otherwise be abandoned or written off during a dissolution.

Opening AssetHub to companies that are not shutting down significantly expands that addressable market. A business could potentially monetize code from a discontinued product, data from legacy operations or other assets that are no longer central to its strategy without dissolving the underlying company.

“AI has created an entirely new market for that work, and we see a huge opportunity to help founders and investors capture value that historically would have been left behind,” SimpleClosure founder and CEO Dori Yona said.

Companies entering AssetHub receive an assessment of whether their assets are commercially viable, followed by buyer matching and transaction support. SimpleClosure evaluates submitted assets and, with the seller’s approval, presents qualified opportunities to its network before managing documentation, asset delivery and distribution of proceeds.

The company has also built privacy controls around WorkspaceData as it expands access to operational information for AI training. SimpleClosure said assets undergo a multi-pass de-identification process intended to detect and replace personal and sensitive information such as names, email addresses, credentials, keys and customer identifiers.

SimpleClosure also works with sellers to confirm ownership and chain of title. Sensitive employee and health records, along with information specifically excluded by sellers, are not offered for sale.

Alongside the AssetHub expansion, SimpleClosure has released its first analysis of the market for company data, examining the characteristics that can influence asset value, the types of information sought by AI buyers and potential uses of licensed datasets in model training.

AssetHub remains free for SimpleClosure dissolution customers and is now available to other established companies. The expansion gives SimpleClosure a potential growth business adjacent to its shutdown services, built around recovering value from software and data assets as demand for real-world AI training material increases.
