'Severe thunderstorm' rains down on parts of Metro Vancouver
Thunder, lightning and hail marked Friday morning for some Metro Vancouverites
Loud thunder sounded and bright lightning flashed through the skies of Metro Vancouver Friday morning.
Environment Canada issued a yellow warning for a "severe thunderstorm" for parts of Metro Vancouver, noting "a severe thunderstorm is located over Belcarra" around 8 a.m. PT.
It said other areas that could be affected include Seymour Heights, Deep Cove and Mount Seymour Park.
Environment Canada also detected lightning in areas including Vancouver, North Vancouver and Burnaby.
"Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are expected to produce damaging hail, wind or rain," said Environment Canada.
It added people should take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches and protect themselves from flying debris and hail.
