Robotic turrets equipped with artificial intelligence already shooting down Shahed drones - Ihnat
The Ukrainian military is successfully using innovative technologies to neutralize the latest aerial threats. Robotic turrets equipped with artificial intelligence have already achieved their first successes in shooting down enemy jet-powered drones. Yurii Ihnat, head of the communications department of the Ukrainian Air Forces Command, has reported this during a televised marathon.
According to him, these turrets are being installed, in particular, on bridges to provide additional protection for critical infrastructure.
“There have already been instances of even jet-powered UAVs—including the Geran-5—being shot down by these very turrets. I, too, was very skeptical; I wondered how this was possible. But the use of innovative technologies and artificial intelligence has eliminated human error and technical miscalculations. Machine vision is specifically used in the shoot-downs. Artificial intelligence even allows these systems to engage jet-powered UAVs,” Ihnat emphasized.
At the same time, the Air Forces representative clarified that the range of such systems is currently limited, since their primary weapon is a machine gun.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, 12 automatic machine-gun turrets designed to combat russian Shahed-type jet-powered strike drones have been deployed in the capital.
