Police reopen Trans-Canada Highway near St. Jude’s after crash investigation

Road was partially or entirely closed for nine hours on Friday

The Trans-Canada Highway near St. Jude's has reopened following a nearly nine-hour closure due to a crash.

Traffic was closed in both directions multiple times through Friday afternoon.

The RCMP said the collision happened around noon Friday near the community of St. Jude’s, located a five-kilometre drive from neighbouring Deer Lake. It closed traffic in both directions along the Trans-Canada Highway.

At 1:40 p.m. NT, the RCMP said one lane was reopening to alternating traffic. It asked drivers to follow directions from the first responders and to drive with caution. It added a full road closure could happen again and there will be delays.

In a statement sent around noon, the RCMP said both police and first responders were at the scene, said the statement. Police asked motorists to avoid the area and to expect delays.

RCMP Media Relations Officer Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey told CBC News the call came in to police just before noon and the crash involved at least two vehicles.
