Parksville celebrated Canada Day with a parade, live music and activities in the community park on July 1 to mark the 159th anniversary of confederation.

Crowds gathered on both sides of the Island Highway for the Canada Day Parade in the morning, with the day also including a pancake breakfast and activities in Parksville Community Park.

Visitors to the park enjoyed face-painting, multiple live bands, sandcastle building, Canada Day cupcakes, a magician’s tricks and more.

The theme for this year’s Canada Day was ‘Proudly Canadian, Proudly Parksville’, according to the City of Parksville.
