Packed programme for the FIM President in China

FIM President Jorge Viegas travelled to China to visit CFMOTO’s new factory and to attend several important meetings during the occasion of the Oriental Beauty Valley MXGP of China in the magic city of Shanghai, the eighteenth round of the 2026 FIM World Motocross Championships.

Last Wednesday, Jorge Viegas, the FIM President visited CFMOTO’s new factory located in Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang Province in China and also recognised as the second biggest city in Yangtze Delta after Shanghai. CFMOTO’s global headquarters covers a total area of approximately two hundred and eighty thousand square metres with two campuses. Their new factory has a capacity to produce over three and a half million bikes per year, including their new electric scooters. CFMOTO has factories in China, Thailand, and Mexico, producing engines, off-road vehicles, motorcycles, and electric vehicles.The FIM President was welcomed by the founder and owner Mr. Guogui Lai, together with the acting CEO Mr. Minjie Lai and his sister Mrs. Luna Lai. Also present was the Sports responsible Mrs. Samantha Liu and the Sports Director from theChinese Taipei Motor Sports Ltd (CTMS) Mrs. Hongguo Gong. During the President’s visit members from CFMOTO’s new factory presented their plans for motorsport in the future and in particular the development of a motorcycle to race in WorldSBK.The party then visited the land designated for CFMOTO’s future circuit racing facility, accompanied byMr. Yuehua Yan, Mayor of Chongfu (Tongxiang, Zhejiang Province), where the track will be located.

The following day, the FIM President travelled to Shanghai to attend the penultimate round of the 2026 MXGP season; here he was welcomed by Mr. Liu Ping, Secretary of Shanghai's Fengxian District in charge of the new motocross circuit where the MXGP of China took place. The importance of motorcycle sport in this region was highlighted, not only to attract the youth market, but also because it is fundamental for the growing two wheels industry. Subsequently, the President met with Mr. Liu Jianhua, Mayor of Ziyang (Sichuan Province), a city that will soon host a second MXGP round. He also held discussions with Ms. Zhong Xiao Min, the new head of the Shanghai Sports Department. Finally, Jorge Viegas paid a courtesy visit to Mr. Patrick Yang, President of Shanghai Juss Sports & Entertainment and future promoter of a WorldSBK round in China.

The Oriental Beauty Valley MXGP of China in the magic city of Shanghai, the eighteenth round of the 2026 FIM World Motocross Championships took place on 13 September in hot conditions that made it tough for the riders fighting for glory at the Shanghai International Off-Road Circuit. In MXGP, it was the new 2026 FIM World Champion who continued his domination, as Jeffrey Herlings took another clean sweep of every single race and practice session on the way to his twelfth GP win of the season for Honda HRC Petronas. In MX2 Camden McLellan put together a determined charge to take his fourth GP victory for the Triumph Racing Factory Team, making his teammate Guillem Farres wait another week to try and claim the title.The thousands of Chinese fans got into the racing and made themselves heard, and no doubt left the venue happy to have enjoyed such a spectacle!
