Oxfordshire sensor technology powers hybrid

A hybrid-electric flight has soared into the record books, crossing the Atlantic and reaching above 30,000 feet.

The achievement was made possible by technology developed through a partnership between Oxfordshire-based Transense Technologies plc, a developer of advanced sensor systems, and Unison, a GE Aerospace company.

It marked the first hybrid-electric transatlantic crossing and the first time such a system reached above 30,000 feet.

"We are proud to see our foundational SAWsense technology incorporated into Unison's industrialised solution and successfully demonstrated at the prestigious Farnborough International Airshow."

Transense's SAWsense torque sensing technology was integrated with Unison's aerospace engineering capabilities and industrialised for use in the high-profile airborne demonstration.

A flight demonstration took place at the Farnborough International Airshow, one of the world's leading aerospace events.
