Oxfordshire hospital unveils advanced imaging technology

A new digital X-ray room has opened, offering patients advanced imaging closer to home.

Located at Horton General Hospital, the facility is now fully operational and features a Philips 7300 digital radiography system.

The upgrade is an investment by Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUH) to improve imaging services.

"The new digital X-ray system gives our teams access to advanced technology that improves image quality, reduces radiation dose, and enables us to offer whole-spine and leg-length imaging at the Horton General Hospital for the first time."

The system includes automated positioning technology, which reduces the physical demands on staff and improves workflow.

It also enables whole-spine and leg-length imaging to be performed on-site, benefiting patients who previously may have had to travel to Oxford for these specialist scans.

Horton General Hospital conducts around 60,000 X-ray examinations each year for approximately 50,000 patients.

Felicity Taylor-Drewe, chief operating officer at OUH, said: "We are committed to ensuring patients across Oxfordshire can access high-quality services as close to home as possible.

"This investment in the Horton General Hospital expands the range of diagnostic examinations available locally and reduces the need for some patients to travel elsewhere for imaging."

The trust said the technology will benefit both patients and staff for years to come.
