OpenAI Targets Small Businesses With New ChatGPT AI Platform
OpenAI (OPENAI) has unveiled a new initiative designed to help small business owners use artificial intelligence to streamline operations, improve productivity and manage day-to-day business functions. The new ChatGPT for Small Businesses program builds on OpenAI’s recently launched ChatGPT Work platform but is specifically tailored to the needs of small businesses rather than large enterprises.
“With a lean team, limited time, and few resources, every owner is expected to be the marketer, accountant, salesperson, operator, and strategist all-in-one,” OpenAI said in announcing the program. “We believe AI can change that by being a force multiplier that extends individual expertise, increases capacity, and gives everyone access to world-class tools they need to achieve their greatest ambitions.”
The initiative includes virtual training sessions, in-person AI academies for small business owners, interactive startup guides, and a curated marketplace of AI agents and partner services designed for smaller organizations. Business owners can enroll through OpenAI’s website.
ChatGPT Work is powered by GPT-5.6, the company’s latest AI model, and is aimed at helping organizations automate workflows, improve decision-making and increase efficiency.
A key focus of the program is helping small businesses apply AI to everyday operations. OpenAI said entrepreneurs can use ChatGPT to automate routine tasks, improve customer engagement and gain faster insights from business data without needing specialized technical expertise.
Common use cases include generating social media calendars, writing product descriptions, creating marketing campaigns and turning rough ideas into launch-ready assets. Businesses can also automate customer service responses, draft client emails and analyze customer feedback to identify trends and improve service.
The platform also supports finance and operations by integrating information from spreadsheets and customer relationship management (CRM) systems to help forecast budgets, monitor key performance metrics and build live business dashboards. These capabilities are designed to help business owners make more informed decisions while reducing time spent on manual reporting and administrative work.
To help users get started, OpenAI has published a comprehensive walkthrough showing business owners how to configure ChatGPT as a customized AI assistant for their specific workflows. The guide demonstrates how to build specialized assistants for functions such as marketing, sales, finance, operations and customer support.
The launch comes as AI adoption accelerates among small and medium-sized businesses. According to a recent Techaisle study, 96% of SMBs are actively pursuing AI initiatives, although many continue to face hurdles related to data quality and cybersecurity. The report also found that about 35% of SMBs now use generative AI as their primary research tool.
The U.S. Small Business Administration has also encouraged AI adoption, noting that artificial intelligence can help small businesses become more competitive by enabling them to accomplish more with fewer resources.
