One dead after crash on Trans-Canada Highway near Hillview, RCMP investigating
Police say SUV and tractor trailer collided around 6:40 a.m. Saturday morning
The RCMP says it's investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that happened on the Trans-Canada Highway near Hillview, N.L. — south of Clarenville and the Route 205 exit — Saturday morning.
In a news release, the RCMP said the crash between an SUV and a tractor trailer happened around 6:40 a.m. NT.
A 76-year old man, who was in the SUV, was rushed to the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville where he later died from his injuries, the RCMP said, and the driver of the transport truck was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The crash forced the closure of that section of the highway for most of the day on Saturday. Police examined the scene and cleared the debris in order to make the highway passable. Both lanes were reopened around 10:45 p.m.
Police are asking witnesses and anyone with dash cam footage to contact the Clarenville RCMP detachment.
