Oman Expands Digital Skills Training Through Ericsson’s Digital Lab Programme
Through the Digital Lab Program, young Omanis gain hands-on experience in AI, robotics, coding, electronics and emerging technologies courses helping equip them with future-ready digital skills.
Held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Saif bin Abdullah Al Haddabi, President of the Research and Innovation Authority, the inauguration brought together government, industry and education stakeholders to highlight the role of technology and skills development in advancing the ambitions of Oman Vision 2040.
The program forms part of Ericsson’s broader contribution to the Midad Digital Center, a strategic component of the Partnership for Development (Offset) Program. Since the Center’s soft launch in 2021, Ericsson has contributed its global technology and knowledge-transfer expertise, equipped the Center with 5G and IoT technologies, including Ericsson Radio Dot, and supported training, mentorship and STEM initiatives. Across the Center’s learning programs, 3,461 beneficiaries have been reached to date.
During the inauguration, Petra Schirren, President of Ericsson Gulf at Ericsson Europe, Middle East and Africa, delivered a keynote highlighting the importance of investing in talent alongside technology to drive sustainable digital growth.
The event also showcased Ericsson technologies and use cases spanning 5G, AI, robotics and digital twins, demonstrating how advanced connectivity can unlock new possibilities across industries, enterprises and society.
The milestone builds on Ericsson’s ongoing collaboration with the Research and Innovation Authority, the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and Omantel, bringing together technology, knowledge transfer and ecosystem collaboration to develop Oman’s next generation of digital talent.
Ericsson’s partnership with Oman dates back to 1973 and has evolved alongside the Sultanate’s telecommunications sector across generations of technology. More than five decades later, the 1,000+ learner milestone reflects how this long-standing partnership continues to evolve, combining technology leadership with investment in people to create lasting value for Oman and its digital future.
