Microsoft unveils new AI tools for Windows as computer prices rise
Microsoft has introduced new artificial intelligence tools for Windows PCs, alongside additional security measures designed to give users greater control over what AI systems can access.
The announcement comes as rising chip prices and shortages continue to push up the cost of computers. The new tools are designed to allow AI agents to carry out tasks directly on Windows computers, moving beyond traditional assistants that simply respond to questions.
Microsoft is also introducing security controls to limit which files, applications and information these agents can access, addressing concerns about privacy and the risks of allowing AI systems to operate independently.
The developments reflect the company's efforts to make artificial intelligence a more integrated part of everyday computer use.
Alongside the software announcements, Microsoft has unveiled its new Nvidia-powered Surface Laptop Ultra, with prices starting at around $2,600.
The premium device arrives at a time when shortages of computer chips and growing demand from the AI industry are putting pressure on hardware costs.
As technology companies invest heavily in artificial intelligence, the rising price of components is increasingly affecting both manufacturers and consumers, raising questions about how affordable the next generation of AI-powered computers will be.
