Meta Beats Claims It Stole Startup’s Plan for Tag

Meta Platforms Inc. defeated monopolization claims that it stole a rival’s business plan in order to launch the Instagram Shopping product, after a federal judge said the plaintiff failed to plausibly allege any unlawful copying activity.

Meta “persuasively argues that no copying occurred” in view of its own patent application covering a tag system for advertising and facilitating sales of items that are featured in an image, said Magistrate Judge Virginia K. DeMarchi of the US District Court for the Northern District of California in an Aug. 28 order.
