Media: White House spokesperson steps down after 5 days
US media outlets say White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia is to step down, after serving in the role for only five days.
The reports came in on Friday, following questions over Zacharia's ability to conduct a press conference and her qualifications as an attorney.
Prior to the news, US President Donald Trump spoke to reporters at the White House. He said he told Zacharia that "Honestly, if I were you, I'd reconsider." Trump also said that he would let her make a decision over the matter.
Trump and Zacharia have not made any official announcement on her resignation yet. But the White House told NHK that Zacharia is set to depart.
Trump introduced Zacharia as an attorney when he appointed her as press secretary, but it was later revealed that she did not pass the bar exam.
During her first news conference, Zacharia took questions from only three reporters and ended the session after just 15 minutes, drawing frustration from the press.
