Man charged with impaired driving, motorcyclist dead after Brampton hit and run crash: police
Driver of second vehicle fled at first, but returned to the scene later and was arrested
A 21-year-old man is dead after a hit and run crash in Brampton early Saturday morning, said police.
Officers received a call around 3:47 a.m. for a crash between a motorcyclist and driver of a white SUV in the middle of the intersection at Bovaird Drive and Yellow Brick Road, said Peel police Const. Laurie McCann at a news conference.
Peel paramedics said one person had been pronounced dead at the scene, who McCann identified as the 21-year-old motorcycle rider.
The driver of the SUV failed to remain at the scene before police arrived, but later returned while the investigation was taking place, said McCann.
She said the driver, a 48-year-old man, was arrested and charged with impaired driving. He may face additional charges, depending on the results of the ongoing investigation, she said.
At this time, McCann said it appears both vehicles were going straight, with one heading east and the other south, when they collided in the intersection.
McCann said roads in the area will be closed "for the foreseeable future." Residents are asked to avoid the area, as Bovaird Drive is closed between Main Street and Yellow Brick Road.
