Liverpool news: Mac Allister and Munoz to feature in World Cup final

Liverpool are guaranteed to have a 2026 World Cup winner in their squad no matter who emerges victorious in Sunday's final.

Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will help Argentina defend their title against Spain live on BBC One from 19:00 BST, while also bidding for his second winner's medal.

Mac Allister was at Brighton when he was victorious in 2022 and told their club media his childhood heroes were Juan Roman Riquelme and Andreas Iniesta.

"I always watch Juan Roman Riquelme, he was one of the best players in the world when I was growing up," he said. "I always liked Andreas Iniesta as well, both were great players."

Should Argentina beat Spain, Mac Allister would eclipse Iniesta's feat of one World Cup title.

Meanwhile, Liverpool summer signing Victor Munoz is in the opposing squad.

The 23-year-old winger has not yet featured at the 2026 tournament but has been named on Luis de la Fuente's bench.
