LAMP high school misses spot on U.S. News & World Report rankings list
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Montgomery Public Schools announced Friday that one of its schools was not included in the U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools ranking.
Loveless Academic Magnet Program, or LAMP, was not assigned a ranking in the recently released list.
Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous Byrd contacted the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) to better understand why LAMP wasn’t included in this year’s rankings.
MPS stated that the information used to create the rankings isn’t submitted directly by the schools themselves or local school districts. U.S. News gathers information used in its rankings from state education agencies, including the Alabama state department and other outside agencies.
“We understand why our parents, students, alumni, and community members have questions,” said Byrd. “LAMP has a long and well-established history of academic excellence, and one year without a published ranking does not change the quality of the school or the extraordinary accomplishments of its students and educators. We are working with the appropriate officials to better understand what occurred, and we will share additional information when it becomes available.”
LAMP wasn’t the only Alabama high school that didn’t receive a ranking this year. Several schools across the state weren’t assigned rankings by U.S. News & World Report, though circumstances affecting individual schools may vary.
The district plans to provide updates as information becomes available.
