‘Killing Eve’ Origin Story ‘Honey’ To World Premiere At MIPCOM

EXCLUSIVE: Honey, a new show from the world of Killing Eve, will have its world premiere at MIPCOM Cannes.

The BBC and ZDF series will be shown on the Monday of the biggest gathering in the international TV world at 6 p.m. CET (9 a.m. PT) followed by a screening with creator Emma Moran, actor Ann Skelly, EP Sally Woodward Gentle and Fifth Season EVP Jennifer Ebell.

Honey is a Cold War story about an MI6 agent drawn into a dangerous love triangle. Martha (pronounced Marta), played by Skelly, is a deep cover agent for MI6 in East Berlin, 1982, where she explores a shadowy world of counterespionage and finds herself blind-sided by desire in a Cold War ménage-à-trois. Nate Mann (Masters of the Air, 'Licorice Pizza'), Jannis Niewöhner ('Munich: The Edge of War', 'Napoleon'), and Rory Kinnear (The Diplomat, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power) also star.

Although the BBC and ZDF are yet to acknowledge this, Deadline revealed last year that Honey is a Killing Eve origin story focused on the early life of Carolyn Martens, who was played with BAFTA-winning aplomb by Fiona Shaw in Killing Eve.

Sold by Fifth Season, Honey is one of the biggest shows going to MIPCOM and will world premiere alongside the likes of Prime Video and ProSiebenSat.1's royal period drama Queen Silvia.

Ebell said: "Honey has everything you want from a great series; a completely original voice, brilliant characters, sharp wit and real emotional depth, all wrapped up in a Cold War story that keeps you guessing. Emma, Sally and the team have created something that feels genuinely fresh and surprising. It's smart, funny and incredibly hard to resist, and I'm confident audiences around the world will fall for it."

Honey was written by Moran and Emme Hoy. Directors are Toby MacDonald and Michelle Savill, and producer is Christopher Hall. EPs are Woodward Gentle, Moran and Lee Moris.

The show is part of a pact between the BBC and ZDF. The pair also make the likes of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.
