Katayama: Trump voiced concern over weak yen to Takaichi

Japan's finance minister Katayama Satsuki says US President Donald Trump expressed concern over the yen's depreciation against the dollar when he met with Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae on Tuesday in New York.

Katayama said, "Prime Minister Takaichi responded that, generally speaking, the yen's undervaluation is problematic."

The Japanese currency resumed its weak trend this week, changing hands at the 158-yen level against the greenback on Friday.

Katayama has indicated she will keep in close contact with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on issues such as the yen-dollar rate.
