Canada Day at The Forks will feature family-friendly performances and activities, plus some CBC giveaways

This summer, The Forks connects National Indigenous Peoples Day and Canada Day by hosting an 11-day celebration filled with activities, performances, and unique events to commemorate everything that makes Canada special.

Starting on June 21st, The Forks welcomes the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba to help celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. The day will begin with a sacred fire ceremony and teachings shared by Elders, and will continue with a scavenger hunt, food vendors, and a Wáhkóhtowin powwow. CBC’s Unreserved will also be doing a live taping of the show and a meet and greet with host Rosanna Deerchild.

From June 21st to July 1st, The Forks has a variety of events such as a talks with Niigaan Sinclair, Elder Frank Abraham, and Lucy Antsanen, Indigenous-led walking tours that focus on the different treaty regions in Manitoba, performances from Folklorama and Winnipeg Folk Fest, an artifact identification clinic with the Manitoba Archaeological Society, and even a sled dog meet and greet!

On July 1st, celebrate Canada Day with festivities such as the return of dance battles, an interactive West African drumming workshop, skateboarding demonstrations and spray painting with Pitikwé, live music featuring Irvin Miller and more, and a handmade market.

And CBC will be at The Forks too! Look for the CBC trailer to test your Canadian trivia knowledge and win some swag.

All programming is free of charge, and visitors are encouraged to leave the car at home and bike, walk, paddle, take Winnipeg Transit, or carpool or rideshare to The Forks on Canada Day.
