Israel launches AI travel

The Tourism Ministry launched a national travel technology community this week aimed at accelerating the use of artificial intelligence and other innovations in the country's tourism sector, bringing together startups, investors, government agencies and industry leaders.The new initiative, called Travel Innovation IL, was unveiled during an inaugural conference at the Hilton Tel Aviv attended by hundreds of executives from the tourism and technology industries, travel-tech entrepreneurs, investors, government officials and representatives of academia.GalleryThe launch of Travel Innovation IL (Photo: Yuval Yosef)The ministry said it has invested about 1 million shekels (about $300,000) in establishing the community, which is intended to connect tourism companies with technology firms, startups, investors, government bodies and universities to promote innovation and AI-driven solutions.Tourism Ministry Director General Michael Izhakov said artificial intelligence is reshaping how travelers search for information, plan trips and experience destinations."The world of tourism has undergone an unprecedented transformation in recent years, and artificial intelligence is changing the way people search for information, plan trips and consume experiences," Izhakov said. "Israel is an innovation powerhouse, and in accordance with the policy of Tourism Minister Haim Katz, we are creating a platform that will allow these capabilities to be expressed in the tourism industry as well."He said the new community would connect the needs of the tourism industry with Israeli startups to help develop and implement technologies designed to strengthen the competitiveness of Israel's tourism sector.The launch of Travel Innovation IL (Photo: Yuval Yosef)Conference participants were presented with the community's strategic vision and work plan, alongside discussions on the opportunities and challenges posed by emerging technologies. Israeli startups also demonstrated new travel-related technologies during the event.Adam Arbel, the ministry's senior deputy director general for planning, policy and strategy, said Israel has the potential to become a global leader in travel technology."The State of Israel can become a global travel-tech powerhouse," Arbel said. "We see it as a tremendous economic and technological growth engine that is changing the rules of the game and will change the face of the tourism industry."He said the ministry plans to hold additional events in northern and southern Israel to expand participation among entrepreneurs and businesses across the country.The launch of Travel Innovation IL (Photo: Yuval Yosef)According to the ministry, the Travel Innovation IL community will organize professional forums and roundtable discussions, identify challenges facing the tourism industry, encourage collaboration between businesses and technology companies and provide access to professional knowledge and industry resources.The initiative is part of Tourism Minister Haim Katz's broader strategy to strengthen Israel's tourism industry through innovation, entrepreneurship and technology. Alongside investments in tourism infrastructure, expanding hotel capacity and reducing regulatory barriers, the ministry said it aims to create new growth engines that improve visitor experiences and reinforce Israel's position as an advanced global tourism destination.The Travel Innovation IL community will be managed in cooperation with consulting firm KPMG and its innovation specialists.
