IMC Logistics Adds Tesla Semis to Multi-Technology Fleet Strategy

IMC Logistics is adding 50 Tesla Semis to its California fleet, expanding its use of zero-emission trucks across drayage and longer-haul operations.

The intermodal drayage provider will deploy a mix of Tesla Semi Standard Range and Long Range models. The Standard Range trucks will be used for drayage operations in California, while the Long Range models will serve routes between Southern California and inland destinations.

The deployment builds on IMC’s broader approach to reducing emissions in its California operations. The company currently operates battery-electric, hydrogen fuel-cell and renewable-diesel trucks rather than relying on a single vehicle or fuel technology.

“We are focused on making sustainability attainable in day-to-day drayage operations,” said Jim Gillis, Pacific Region President at IMC Logistics. “That means taking a blended approach rather than relying on a single technology. The addition of 50 Tesla Semis strengthens that strategy as well as allows IMC to establish zero-emission service for long haul lanes.”

Matching the two Tesla Semi configurations to different routes gives IMC another way to align zero-emission equipment with specific operating requirements. Shorter-range trucks will be concentrated in drayage service, while the longer-range models extend battery-electric operations beyond local port moves.

The 50-truck addition also represents another step in IMC’s ongoing investment in lower-emission freight operations in California. By operating battery-electric trucks alongside hydrogen fuel-cell and renewable-diesel equipment, the company is continuing to evaluate multiple technologies across its freight network.

IMC did not disclose the number of Standard Range and Long Range Tesla Semis included in the order or provide a timeline for when all 50 trucks will enter service.
