Human remains discovery closes motorway in both directions
Part of a motorway into Manchester has been closed in both directions after suspected human remains were found.
Greater Manchester Police officers were called shortly after 23:00 BST on Monday by road workers who made the discovery close to a bridge between junctions 3 and 4 of the M67 in Tameside.
The force added it was working with "specialist teams to understand the circumstances behind this incident".
The M67 will be closed in both directions between Junction 3 (Hyde) and Junction 4 (Hattersley) for the majority of the day.
National Highways has highlighted the following diversion:
Leave the M67 eastbound at J3 and turn right onto the A627 Clark Way southbound
At the A627/A57 junction, turn left onto the A57 Mottram Road eastbound and continue for just over 2 miles
At the roundabout with the M67 J4/A560, continue onward journey
It added: "There is currently no estimated time for reopening of the eastbound carriageway.
"If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to reroute or even delay your journey."
