HISTORY Ottawa Brings New Concert and Events Venue to Downtown

HISTORY Ottawa is now open at 47 Rideau Street in the ByWard Market, adding a new 2,000-capacity venue to the city’s live entertainment scene.

The venue, operated by Live Nation Canada, is an expansion of HISTORY Toronto. It will host concerts, comedy shows, galas, community events and other live programming throughout the year.

HISTORY Ottawa’s first year is expected to include more than 200 events, with Canadian and international artists scheduled to perform at the venue. The space was designed with flexible configurations that can accommodate different types of events, along with upgraded sound and lighting and expanded hospitality options.

The opening is also expected to contribute to the local economy. More than 100 jobs have been filled at the venue, while its events are expected to bring additional customers to restaurants, hotels and retail businesses in downtown Ottawa.

Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming Billy Denault shared, “On behalf of the Ontario government, congratulations to HISTORY Ottawa on opening its doors in the heart of our nation’s capital.”

“This incredible new venue will bring more world-class entertainment to Ottawa, draw visitors from near and far, and add even more energy to the city’s thriving arts and culture scene,” Denault continued.

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe said the venue’s opening will provide another attraction for both residents and visitors while contributing to activity in the downtown area.

“What an exciting day for Ottawa. HISTORY Ottawa is bringing world-class live entertainment to our city and adding new energy to the ByWard Market and our downtown,” said Sutcliffe.

“It’s creating good local jobs, supporting nearby businesses, and giving residents and visitors another great reason to come downtown. This is the kind of investment we want to see in Ottawa, and I’m thrilled to welcome HISTORY Ottawa and its artists, fans and team to our city.”

The project has been in development for several years, according to Live Nation Canada. Erik Hoffman, the company’s President of Music, said the venue was created to provide Ottawa with a new live entertainment option.

“Today represents the culmination of years of planning and a shared vision to create a world-class entertainment destination in Ottawa,” said Hoffman. “We are excited to welcome fans through our doors and introduce them to the intimate, high-energy experience that makes HISTORY such a special venue.”

In addition to opening the venue, Live Nation Canada is partnering with MusiCounts on music education initiatives for local students. The partnership is intended to support young people interested in developing their musical skills.

HISTORY Ottawa’s opening gives touring artists another venue in the Canadian capital and expands the city’s options for concerts and other large-scale events. The 2,000-capacity space is expected to host programming throughout the year.

The venue’s upcoming schedule includes a mix of rock, alternative and roots acts, beginning with Houndmouth on September 4. KALEO follows on September 9, with The Pretty Reckless, Blackberry Smoke and UB40 scheduled for September 13, 15 and 18, respectively. Kathleen Edwards will perform September 19, followed by Sabaton on September 26 and Gogol Bordello on September 30.
