ETSU and Northeast State expand radiologic technology pathway

East Tennessee State University and Northeast State Community College are expanding educational opportunities for students through a new articulation agreement that creates a direct pathway from Northeast State's Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology to ETSU's Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Science.

Northeast State welcomed 19 students as the first cohort of the Radiologic Technology program in spring 2025. The students completed their two-year associate degrees in spring 2026, becoming the program's first graduates and the first students eligible to continue their education through this pathway to ETSU.

"We are pleased to see the first graduates of Northeast State's Radiologic Technology program have an opportunity to continue their education through this partnership with ETSU," said Dr. Stephanie Barham, Assistant Vice President for Academic Programs, Assessments, and Accreditation at Northeast State Community College. "This agreement reflects the strength of our institutions working together to create meaningful opportunities for students and support the continued development of healthcare professionals in our region."

The agreement also provides flexibility for licensed radiographers who want to advance their education while continuing to work in the field, bolstering the region's healthcare workforce.

"This articulation agreement is an excellent opportunity for licensed radiographers to obtain an advanced degree while working," said Dr. Ester L. Verhovsek-Hughes, chair and professor in the ETSU Department of Allied Health Sciences. "All courses are offered 100% online, allowing students to pursue their degree without the need to attend classes on campus. Advisors work directly with each student to develop a personalized program of study that prepares them for advancement in their field."

By connecting two-year and four-year degree programs, ETSU and Northeast State are helping students build on their existing education and prepare for continued career growth.
