Another film adaptation of a popular video game is in the works.

Video game publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment and A24 announced the adaptation of the fantasy video game "Elden Ring" on April 20. Written and directed by Alex Garland ("Civil War", "Ex Machina" and "28 Years Later"), the film will be shot for IMAX, with production starting this spring. A cast lineup for the film was revealed, but character details are still under wraps.

"Elden Ring" is a role-playing video game based on the worldbuilding of George R. R. Martin, author of "A Song of Ice and Fire", which inspired the hit television franchise "Game of Thrones." Since its 2022 release on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, the game has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, according to Bandai Namco Entertainment.

Live-action adaptations of video games have become widely popular in recent years, with the success of Prime Video's "Fallout" television series and HBO's "The Last of Us." The newly released "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" also crushed box office predictions, making more than $131.7 million on its opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo.
