Daily Briefing: Did Spencer Pratt win?

Welcome to the Daily Briefing. Start with these reads:

Nicole Fallert here. I just want to be a globe-trotting chihuahua in a tiny bag. We have the news to know on Wednesday, from primary results across the country to a growing roster of state school phone bans.

Election updates after busy June primaries kick off

High-stakes primary races yesterday kick off a busy month of primary races to determine control of Congress, statehouses and even the fate of a big U.S. city.

Still waiting for California results: The top two spots for governor in the nation's most populous state remain undetermined early Wednesday. In the race for mayor in Los Angeles, incumbent Karen Bass advanced to a November runoff, with former reality TV star Spencer Pratt and City Councilmember Nithya Raman still battling for the second spot.

Other takeaways: A Trump-backed candidate lost Iowa's Republican gubernatorial primary. Former Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland is also poised to make history after winning the New Mexico Democratic gubernatorial primary. And Rebecca Bennett is projected to face off in November against Republican Rep. Tom Kean, who hasn't been seen on Capitol Hill since early March, for New Jersey's 7th Congressional District.

Atlanta readies to welcome the world

The 2026 World Cup is now just days away. Mexico and South Africa face off June 11 to kick off the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Can 'Love Island' 'keep it kind' this summer?

Time to clock in for your part-time job: Snuggling up on the couch at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET on weeknights to watch "Love Island." There will be villa antics as cast members couple up, break up and, sometimes, leave the show after stirring up controversy. And the show wants to keep the Season 8 weeks-long journey a good vibe, asking fans to "keep it kind" as passions rise over America's favorite couples. If you've got endless time, the UK version just launched, too.
